Winona H. Welch (1896-1990) was a bryologist specializing in Fontinalaceae and Hookeriaceae at DePauw University. Welch and her mentor Truman G. Yuncker were responsible for developing that herbarium. In 1987 she oversaw the transfer of the herbarium to The New York Botanical Garden. She was born in Goodland, Jasper County, IN.
